Director Deepa Mehta has decided to release her film ‘Videsh’ with an “A” Certificate.
The censor board had objected to certain scenes in the film based on the topic of domestic violence.
The officials of the censor board had felt that some scenes which showed the protagonist played by Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta being battered are too violent and brutal.
They suggested to Deepa that these scenes be deleted.
Instead the director chose not to dilute the intended impact of the film and go for the “Adult” certificate.
She also had complete support from B.R.Films, the production company which produced ‘Videsh’ to go ahead with her decision.
CEO of BR Films- Sanjay Bhutiani says “The essence of the film is highlighting social issues and domestic violence is one among them. The Censor Board had objected to the cruelty shown in some scenes and therefore Deepa Mehta and BR Films have decided to go along with the “A” certificate which would not compromise on the creative integrity of the film”.
