Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s ‘Debi’ is a story of homecoming set against the backdrop of Durga Puja.
Two-time National award winning Bengali filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury is ready with his first internet venture -a 13-minute film titled “Debi”, a story of homecoming set against the backdrop of Durga Puja.
Shot in the heritage buildings of Lahabari and the bylanes of north Kolkata, “Debi” encapsulates the beauty of nostalgia and the tradition of the festival of Durga Puja through the narration of homecoming of protagonist Anuradha, of the Basu Chowdhury family, assuring an instant emotional connect with the viewers, a statement said on Thursday.
The film will be released on a digital platform on October 10. It stars National Award winner Ananya Chatterjee, actors Arjun Chakraborty, Kaushik Banerjee as well as popular playback singer Monali Thakur.
“Capturing the audience interest within a span of few minutes while narrating a complete story is one of the most critical creative challenge for any filmmaker that the technology of internet has thrown up,” said Roy Chowdhury in a statement.
The “Anuranan” and “Antaheen” filmmaker added: “Here, one does not need to wait for the viewers to come to the theatres. Through laptops, tablets, smart phones and all, this is a great opportunity to enter into the very ‘me-time’ of a viewer while he or she is surfing the net at work or leisure or getting connected through a smart devices while on transit.”
