A decade and a half after she was last seen in a notable film, Anita Raaj, the leading lady of the early 80s, would be seen on the big screen. The film that marks her comeback is Thodi Life Thoda Magic which is currently facing controversy due to its title clash with Yash Raj Films’ Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic.
Anita Raj’s last major release was Ghar Ki Izzat which had released way back in 1994. The film starred Jeetendra, Rishi Kapoor and Juhi Chawla and was a moderate success. After that Anita Raj took a long break with her only release in the interim being Sagar Sangam (2000) which saw a delayed arrival at the theaters. The film starred Mithun Chakraborty, Shatrughan Sinha and Rakhee.
Now she returns as one of the key protagonists in Thodi Life Thoda Magic which stars Jackie Shroff, Arbaaz Khan, Sahil Chadha and Meera Vasudevan. In spite of a long absence from the arclights, Anita Raj looks good on screen since she hasn’t put on weight (unlike her contemporary from the same era, Rati Aghnihotri) and demonstrates the same glamour quotient as she did years back.
In a reasonably eventful career spanning a decade, Anita Raj did close to 65 films. For the uninitiated, Anita Raj had debuted with Prem Geet in 1981 which was followed by Dulha Bikta Hai. Both the films were successful at the box office and incidentally starred Raj Babbar as her leading hero.
Daughter of Jagdish Raaj, a famous character actor from the 60s and the 70s, Anita Raj later married film director Arjun Hingorani and bid farewell to the industry. Now one waits to see how impressive does she turns out to be in her comeback film Thodi Life Thoda Magic which is expected to arrive in the month of July.
