The music industry has suddenly gone into a state of mourning with the passing away of Ghazal Maestro Pankaj Udhas. The man who made every Indian living abroad cry every single time while he sang Chitthi Aayi Hai. Pankaj Ji breathed his last on Monday after battling a prolonged illness.
His daughter shared a note and confirmed the news. The official statement from the family read, “With a very heavy heart, we are saddened to inform you of the demise of Padmashri Pankaj Udhas on 26th February 2024 due to a prolonged illness. Udhas Family.”
As soon as the news of Pankaj Udhas’s death broke, the music industry was shocked at his sudden demise, and tributes started pouring in. Sonu Nigam wrote a heartbreaking note that read, “One of the most important parts of my childhood is lost today. Shri Pankaj Udhas ji, I will miss you forever. My heart cries, knowing that you are no more. Thank you for being there. Om Shanti.” Anupamaa actor and singer Sudhanshu Pandey wrote, “Really sad … heartbreaking to hear this .. what a fab human Om Shanti.”

God bless you with all the strength.” Singer and musician Aabhas Joshi wrote, “That’s really saddening. I will always remember the love he had in his heart for everyone. Om Shanti.” Musicians Darshan Doshi and Shriram Iyer also offered their condolences to the bereaved family.
Padmashri Pankaj Udhas Ji revolutionized Ghazal singing in India with his mellowed-down and commercial take on the genre of music. He brought music videos on the periphery, and suddenly, every other Indian was singing Ghazals without even knowing!
