Deepika Padukone has become the first Indian cover girl of a South American magazine — Cosas. The actress also panned Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire for its “dark” potrayal of India in the Peruvian edition of the magazine.
With this, she joins glam divas Madonna, Angelina Jolie and Shakira, who have also featured on the cover of the magazine.
“The problem is that the film only shows the dark side of our country. People tend to think this is all there is to India, which is not true. It’s not a correct representation of reality,” she says.
The actress, whose sultry look is making waves in South America, did a photo shoot for the magazine in Peru. She also attended the Fashion Week Peruvian Moda as the guest of honour sporting a stunning black sari.
The actress says she is upset about not being able to visit Cuzco, the old capital of the Incas, and Machu Picchu, because of lack of time.
Slamming Slumdog Millionaire , Deepika says India has a rich culture and heritage, and has developed a lot in recent years.
“Unfortunately, none of it has been shown in the film,” she says in the magazine.
“I do not deny that some of the things shown in the film are true. It must be noted the film is made by an alien,” the Bangalore beauty says.
Though Hollywood director Rob Cohen hailed Deepika as the new face of Indian cinema, the actress says she has no plans of moving to Hollywood in the near future. She, however, admits getting a few international offers, but says she is in no hurry and is waiting for the right script to come her way.
