Soon after the demise of Prakash Mehra, his son Puneet intends to carry forward the late filmmaker’s legacy by remaking the 1976 blockbuster Hera Pheri. The film is expected to go on the floors by the end of this year.
A close friend of the Mehra family said, "It came as a surprise when Puneet decided to remake the Amitabh Bachchan-Vinod Khanna starrer Hera Pheri. He believes that the remake of the film is a viable proposition."
Talking about his late father, Puneet said, "We miss our father very much. We didn’t expect his end to come so soon. He had a lung infection, which unfortunately spread into his blood."
Commenting on the plans that the late filmmaker’s three sons have, Puneet added, "I have an interesting idea to carry forward his legacy. As for my brothers, Sumeet is settled abroad while Amit is planning to start his own production house."
Although he hasn’t finalised the actors yet, one wonders if he intends to approach Abhishek Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna for the remake, since the original starred their respective fathers. "I wouldn’t like to disclose that now. I will make an announcement shortly," he said.
